ILOILO City – A 51-year-old woman and her 81-year-old mother were stabbed in Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
The stabbing happened around 5:45 pm. on Wednesday at the victims’ house. The suspect was 54-year-old Efren Discutido who had been detained at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan town for six year (2005 to 2011). His wife accused him of domestic violence.
Lilibeth Silvederio and mother Nelly Bretaña died of multiple stab wounds at the Don Jose Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo.
Silvederio’s son John Kenneth, 13, was also stabbed but survived.
According to Senior Police Officer 4 Glenn Azucena, Barotac Nuevo deputy police chief, the suspect got mad at the two women for burning garbage in front of their house.
The smoke bothered Discutido whose house was nearby and he confronted the women, said Azucena.
There was a heated argument between the two women and suspect prior to the stabbing.
Discutido fled after the stabbing but surrendered to the police yesterday with the help of Tiwi village chief Antonio Bersala.
He admitted the crime but insisted it was not his intention to kill the women.
“The mother and son were the first to physically attack me. I got angry and stabbed them. Bretaña pulled my hair so I stabbed her too,” said Discutido.
If the suspect were to be believed, John Kenneth hit him with a piece of wood.
As of this writing, the suspect was detained at the Barotac Nuevo police station. Police said he faces two counts of murder and frustrated murder charges./PN
