Ex-village chief yields drug paraphernalia

AKLAN – A former village chief was arrested for possessing illegal drug paraphernalia in a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Aklan raid in Barangay Cabilawan, Madalag town on Thursday, April 25.

Authorities identified the suspect as Joejit Arcenio, 35.

The raiding team was enforcing a search warrant for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms, issued on April 24, 2024 by Hon. Bienvenido Barrios Jr., Executive Judge of Regional Trial Court, 6th Judicial Region in Kalibo, Aklan.

The raid comes after the Madalag Municipal Police Station received a complaint on February 17 that the suspect fired a gun in their area.

CIDG operatives instead seized two cartridges of .38 revolver, and drug paraphernalia aluminum foil, two tooters and two lighters.

Arcenio, meanwhile admitted that he was a drug surrenderee.

He added that he fired a gun on February 17 but he said he only borrowed the gun from his brother-in-law while the bullets were given to him by his friend from the Philippine Navy.

The suspect was taken into custody by the CIDG-Aklan. He is facing charges for violation of Section 12 of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002./PN
