KALIBO, Aklan – Gov. Florencio Miraflores said the “inefficiency of some medical practitioners in the rural area to get the message across to the patients” can lead to death.
“Failure to communicate effectively is one factor of death. We need to fix the system to avoid further death counts especially in the rural health facility,” he stressed.
Miraflores said this during the induction ceremony of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Aklan Board of Directors and members on Thursday at the Ati-Atihan Festival Hotel in this capital town.
The newly inducted directors and members of PRC-Aklan will serve in the agency until 2019.
According to Miraflores, the issue is “not the absence of blood, but the access to it.”
He added that, “If the health system does not fix or provide support, mortality will be inevitable.”
Miraflores said the provincial hospital now has all the equipment and personnel to operate a blood bank.
The provincial government has hired a permanent pathologist and about 20 medical technologist to man the blood bank on a 24/7 basis. It will be partnering with the PRC as a processing center.
Miraflores also encouraged the local government units in the province to “efficiently” operate their health centers and make the indigents their priority. (With Megs Lunn/PN)
