‘Fake’ fake news?

IT’S ALL a bit too confusing with what I see on TV and YouTube. Too much fakery, although I can still believe what I see in newspapers.

Is there something wrong when the less complex the presentation, the more accurate it seems?

What I see on the late night comedians’ shows, the ones the United States President seems to hate, is often humorous and clearly fake, but then there is no intention to present it as accurate; it’s just a parody.

The problem is the material that comes from the President or is “retweeted” or whatever the equivalent is for Truth Social. If it comes from an official source it should be accurate. A hint – all caps doesn’t help clarify a message.

Perhaps the worst example is the clip showing US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sunning on a Gaza beach, a giant golden Trump statue, and the now “off the team” Musk showering money. It is just offensive.

I want the truth and by reading a wide selection of newspapers I am able to get a reasonable understanding of what is happening and it scares me.

Ignore them?

The approach by Israel to the latest Gaza aid flotilla seems illogical.

Stoping them and boarding the boats in international waters is a crime and probably a war crime as weapons were there as a threat.

It would have been more sensible to let them keep going and arrest them as “invaders”.

As a number of the people on the flotilla were well known, more international attention is created and this portrays the boarding of the boats poorly.

It seems that a more practical approach would have been to let them continue on, under escort, land and then arrest them, making sure that any food and medicine is passed on to one of the charities operating there.

Of course, this war, and any war is illogical. Too many people are being killed or displaced. A better solution must be found.

All that glistens is not gold

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to me what I see of the Oval Office looks like a gilded cage for some bird, maybe a turkey, and I doubt I will get an invite to reconsider my view.

As President Trump says, “Some of the highest quality 24 Karat Gold were used in the Oval Office…”

But 24 Karat is a specific measure of gold purity between 99.9% to 100%. You can’t really have poor quality 100% pure gold.

President Trump has stated, “I know words. I have the best words.” But maybe it’s time to get that dictionary out and look up “gaudy”.

Will this be a golden presidency? Something for the reader to decide on in time. (dennis.fitzgerald.letters@gmail.com)/PN
