BACOLOD City – He was found dead in a rice field in Sitio Magsico, Barangay Punta Salong, Manapla, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.
The body of the 56-year-old farmer Miguel Panggunan of Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was discovered around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, a police report showed.
Wilson Gonzales alerted the police after finding Panggunan, who sustained hack wounds on the different parts of the body, that day.
According to the police, Rosebert Esmedia, a resident of Barangay Punta Salong, had a hand in the hacking.
Esmedia is among the farmers who work for Panggunan.
Esmedia and Panggunan had a drinking spree the night before the latter was found dead, at around 10 p.m., the investigators said.
Jealousy was the motive in the hacking, according to the police.
Esmedia was arrested and detained at the Manapla police station lockup facility and facing appropriate charges./PN
