NEGROS Occidental – A 40-year-old farmer was shot dead by two unidentified armed men after a basketball game in Purok Narra, Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City on Monday, July 21.
The victim was identified only by the alias “JR,” a resident of the area.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Indiape Jr., chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, JR was approached by the suspects. Fearing for his life, he attempted to flee but was chased and shot multiple times with a still unidentified caliber of firearm.
The victim sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the buttocks and head. He was rushed to the Kabankalan City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Indiape said they are looking into illegal drugs and a possible personal grudge as potential motives behind the killing. He also confirmed that the victim had prior barangay records for alleged theft and was reportedly involved in illegal drug use, based on statements from family members.
As of this writing, police were continuing their investigation and searching for witnesses. Initial findings indicate that two suspects were involved, but their identities remain unknown./PN
