ILOILO City – Homemade guns, ammunitions and a grenade were seized from a farmer’s house in Barangay Talongadian, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.
The Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (Rcidu) raided the house of Renato Destacamento on Friday night.
Recovered were four long-barreled 12-gauge shotguns, one short-barreled 12-gauge shotgun, a grenade, a .9mm pistol, two magazines of a .9mm, 17 rounds of ammunition for a .22 revolver, 14 rounds of ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun, a holster and a bulletproof vest.
Rcidu operatives had a search warrant issued by Judge Fe Gayanilo of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 35.
The police of Santa Barbara assisted the Rcidu.
Destacamento and his three bodyguards – Ryan Borda, 21, of Ajuy, Iloilo; Glen Dadut, 19, of Barangay Peña, Buenavista, Guimaras; and Rodel Palay, 19, of Calatrava, Negros Occidental – were arrested and detained at the Santa Barbara police station jail.
“We are wondering why he had guns and ammunitions,” said Rcidu director, Superintendent Peter Naboye.
Investigation is ongoing.
A radio report quoted Destacamento as saying the guns were for his own protection because the Revolutionary Proletarian Army – Alex Bongcayao Brigade would frequently steal corn from his five-hectare farm./PN
