ILOILO City – A fetus placed in a plastic bag was found abandoned along the roadside of Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, City Proper district on Monday afternoon, July 28.
Punong Barangay Nelson Panaligan said a utility worker initially thought the plastic bag contained ordinary garbage. However, upon opening it, the worker found a lifeless fetus inside, left beside a parked vehicle.
The fetus was immediately brought to a nearby church in Tanza for a blessing before burial.
As of this writing, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has yet to determine the identity of the person who abandoned the fetus.
Panaligan appealed to the mother to come forward and take responsibility.
“We urge the mother to surrender or seek help,” he said.
The ICPO, in coordination with barangay officials, have launched an investigation into the incident./PN
