Fisheries college produces 1,450 graduates

ILOILO – A total of 1,450 students graduated at the Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) in Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo on April 10.

Seventy-six of the graduates were cum laudes and two were magna cum laudes, according to Dr. Michael Bracamonte Dizon, vice president for administrative affairs of ISCOF.

The graduates came from the five campuses of ISCOF. These were the following:

* Dingle Agricultural and Technological College – 134

* Dumangas Polytechnic College – 291

* San Enrique Polytechnic College – 161

* ISCOF in Poblacion, Barotac Nuevo – 275

* ISCOF main campus in Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo – 421

A hundred and sixty-eight of the graduates were products of ISCOF’s Graduate School (master’s degree offering).

According to Dizon, ISCOF’s student population is steadily increasing because the college is offering more courses. These are the following:

* Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology

* Bachelor of Science in Fisheries

* Bachelor in Secondary Education

* Bachelor in Elementary Education

* Bachelor of Science in Ecological Tourism

* Bachelor of Science Community Resource Management

* Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management

* Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Dingle and San Enrique campus)

* Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management

* Bachelor in Industrial Technology

* Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

* PhD Educational Technology

* PhD in Instructional Leadership

* Master in Instructional Leadership

* Master in Development Management

* Doctor in Development Management

* Master in Fisheries Technology

* Doctor in Fisheries Technology

Cong. Ferjenel Biron (4th District, Iloilo) who graced the graduation ceremony said he would pursue the plan to convert ISCOF into a university.

In 2012 he introduced the proposed Republic Act 10604 for ISCOF’s conversion into a university but unfortunately the college failed  to meet within three years the requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education./PN
