Fisherman killed in Tigbauan road accident

ILOILO – A 52-year-old fisherman was fatally hit by a Euro bus in Barangay Atabayan, Tigbauan town over the weekend.

Pablo Titular Malaga, a resident of the said village, was crossing the road when he was bumped on Saturday night, March 8, by an Iloilo City-bound bus with University of the Philippines High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) students and a faculty member on board.

According to Police Captain Alfred Mansoy of the Tigbauan Municipal Police Station, Malaga did not use the pedestrian lane and the area had poor lighting at the time.

The bus driver, Kim Andrew Fariolan Tunay, 40, of Barangay Banuyao, Miag-ao town, surrendered to the Oton Municipal Police Station following the incident.

Meanwhile, UP Visayas Chancellor, Dr. Clement C. Camposano, extended condolences to Malaga’s family.

He also assured that counseling would be provided to students who witnessed the accident. “Our UPHSI students will undergo a debriefing with counselors from the Office of Student Affairs to help them process the incident,” he said.

As of this writing, police were still conducting further investigations into the case./PN
