FU begs off from hosting UniGames

BACOLOD City — Due to problems in playing and billeting venues, the Foundation University (FU) in Dumaguete City has begged off from hosting this year’s 19th University Games (UniGames) in October.

Roger A. Banzuela, president of UniGames, confirmed this.

Banzuela is currently working on making the Iloilo City the host of this year’s annual collegiate private schools sports competitions.

If Iloilo City’s hosting won’t materialize, Banzuela said he will “force” Bacolod City to host the event but recognized that he will have a problem with the host school.

The FU hosted UniGames in 2000, 2002 and 2008, while Silliman University, also in Dumaguete, hosted the event in 2010.

UniGames, which has 14 sports events, was founded in 1996 by Brother Rolando Dizon, FSC, then president of University of Saint La Salle (USLS) Bacolod.

USLS has already hosted the event 11 times, including last year’s edition.

Other schools that hosted the UniGames were De La Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite, 2003; Central Philippine University in Iloilo City, 2009; and Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion in Roxas City, Capiz, 2011./PN
