Ginebra players dominate Gilas pool for SEA Games

MANILA – Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone went for familiarity. He selected most of his players from Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings for a 15-man pool that would see action in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Kings players who were selected were Gregory Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle, Earl Scottie Thompson, Arthur dela Cruz, and Lewis Alfred Tenorio.

Also selected were San Miguel Beermen’s June Mar Fajardo, Christian Standhardinger, Marcio Lassiter, and Chris Ross.

Completing the pool were TNT KaTropa’s Jayson Castro, Jeth Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy, Alaska Aces’ Vic Manuel and Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters’ Matthew Wright.

Gilas Pilipinas were the perennial champions in the SEA Games men’s basketball competition. During the 2017 edition, the Philippines defeated Indonesia for the gold medal.

Meanwhile, tapped to compete in the 3×3 basketball were Meralco Bolts’ Chris Newsome, Raymond Almazan and Baser Amer and NorthPort Batang Pier’s Robert Bolick and Moala Tautuaa.

Also tapped were Beermen’s Terrence Romeo, KaTropa’s Anthony Semerad, Aces’ Chris Banchero, Fuel Masters’ Jason Perkins, Columbian Dyip’s Jaymar Perez, Magnolia Hotshots’ Ian Sangalang, and Blackwater Elite’s Ray Mark Belo./PN
