MANILA – Global-Cebu Football Club got back on the winning track in the 2017 Philippines Football League after a 3-1 victory over Davao-San Miguel Aguilas at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
The victory served as a bounce back for the Cebu City-based football club after settling for a 2-2 draw with the Davaoenos in their encounter last Saturday at the latter’s home turf.
Wesley dos Santos, Darryl Roberts and Paolo Salenga scored a goal each for Global-Cebu.
The club tightened its hold at second place in the standings with 33 points on nine wins, six draws and four losses.
After nearly conceding a goal to the aggressive Davao team early in the game, Global-Cebu broke the scoreless deadlock with Dos Santos drained a corner pass by Misagh Bahadoran.
In the second half, Global-Cebu doubled the lead with Roberts draining from close range before Salenga increased the Cebuano’s lead to 3-0 with a hit over the defense of Davao’s keeper.
However, the Davao team did not go home empty handed as Harrison Sawyer was able to drain one over the defense of Global-Cebu keeper Patrick Deyto with five minutes left in the game.
With the outcome, Davao remained at seventh place in the standings with six points on six draws and eight losses. They will try to score their first win against Ceres-Negros Football Club today at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
In the other match, Masaki Yanagawa scored a go-ahead goal as JP Voltes Football Club moved up to fourth place in the standings with a 1-0 win over Kaya-Makati Football Club./PN
