CAPIZ – Smiles of relief and gratitude lit up the faces of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) as they availed themselves of free medical and dental services through the Gugma Medical and Dental Mission led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro on Tuesday, September 23.
A total of 449 PDLs at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Barangay San Jose received medical check-ups, medicines, maintenance supplies, and dental kits during the initiative.
City Jail Warden Superintendent Julius Cesar Chavez, Jail Inspector Rowena Magallanes, and several PDLs expressed deep appreciation for the program, noting how vital and timely the free, comprehensive healthcare services were in strengthening the overall well-being of those in custody.
The activity was made possible through the support of the Provincial Health Office led by Dr. Ramon Alex T. Nolasco, Bailan District Hospital under Dr. Ian Arciga, and Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital headed by Dr. Florencio Luching. Personnel of the BJMP Roxas City also assisted in facilitating the mission.
The initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to extending compassion and care to all sectors of society, ensuring that even those behind bars are not left behind in accessing quality healthcare./PN
