Guimaras gets 1,500 more COVID vaccines

GUIMARAS – An additional 1,500 doses of Moderna vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were delivered to this island province on Oct. 14.

This most recent delivery brought to78,864 the total vaccine doses (various brands) released to Guimaras by the Department of Health (DOH).

The new vaccine supply would be equally distributed to the municipalities of Jordan, Buenavista, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, and Nueva Valencia.

Here’s the breakdown of the 78,864 vaccine doses that Guimaras received from DOH:

* Sinovac – 53,554 doses

* Pfizer – 8,790 doses

* AstraZeneca – 8,120 doses

* Janssen – 6,000 doses

* Moderna – 2,400 doses

As of Oct. 11, DOH Region 6 data showed 28,321 Guimarasnons were already fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 30,771 more waiting for their second dose to be considered as fully vaccinated, too.

The provincial government of Guimaras targets to vaccinate 130,908 people to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 in the island.

As of Oct. 14, Guimaras had 112 active COVID-19 cases, 2,811 recovered cases and 146 deaths.

The active cases were in San Lorenzo (32), Nueva Valencia (28), Buenavista (27), Jordan (17), and Sibunag (eight)./PN
