BACOLOD City – A heated political exchange between two councilors in Talisay City, Negros Occidental nearly turned into a fistfight during the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) regular session on Monday.
Councilor Rolin Meliton delivered his privilege speech regarding the city’s housing program, in which he raised several concerns.
During the speech, Meliton reportedly directed his remarks to the SP’s housing committee chair, Councilor Randy Ereñeta, regarding updates on last year’s program.
Ereñeta tried to address Meliton’s concerns, but there was no clarity on the issue, and both parties got into a heated argument.
Talisay City’s Vice Mayor Nic Jalandoni broke the heated exchange by calling for a recess. However, Ereñeta stood up from his chair and allegedly tried to approach Meliton.
The incident was only averted after the other council members intervened.
They suggested giving the two councilors time to cool down.
Both sides have also yet to release their comments on the incident as of this writing. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
