
BACOLOD City – A police officer assigned to the Hinigaran Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental was commended for his bravery in apprehending an armed suspect on Tuesday, May 13.
Police Staff Sergeant Alvin Uy was recognized by Colonel Rainerio De Chavez, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), for his courage and swift action in responding to a report of a man threatening residents with bladed weapons in the area.
The suspect identified as alias “John,” 27, was arrested for direct assault following a tense altercation.
During the encounter, Uy sustained a minor laceration to his left forearm but successfully helped subdue the suspect, preventing further harm to the public.
“Despite the injury, Staff Sergeant Uy displayed exceptional presence of mind and dedication to duty,” NOCPPO said. “His actions ensured the safety of residents and highlighted the risks officers face every day.”
De Chavez further praised Uy’s quick response and bravery, encouraging all police personnel to remain vigilant, especially during heightened security operations./PN
