ILOILO City – A police raid on the house of a suspected gunrunner yielded 12 unlicensed homemade firearms in Barangay San Ramon, Malinao, Aklan yesterday.

The raiding team of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) and Malinao police station seized the items inside the house of Carlito dela Cruz around 5:20 a.m., the APPO director, Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, said.

Dela Cruz is now detained at the Malinao police station, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of unlicensed guns and ammunitions.

The police served an arrest warrant issued by Judge Marietta Homena of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), 6th Judicial Region in Kalibo.

Recovered were three pieces of caliber .22 revolver, seven pieces of caliber.38 revolver, .357 revolver and a 12-gauge shotgun.

“The suspect is a gun maker and gun runner in Aklan,” Nacion said.

Nacion added that one of  the tipsters had informed the police about Dela Cruz being a gun runner.

“We are intensifying our campaign against loose firearms by catching gun runners,” Nacion said./PN
