ILOILO City – The Iloilo Hotels, Restaurants, and Resorts Association, Inc. (HRRA), along with several other business entities, has extended its congratulations to the city government for being recognized as the Overall Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC) by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 6.
In a statement, Happy Mapua Abenir, IHRRA president, said the recognition highlights Iloilo City’s continued growth and success in various sectors, particularly in business competitiveness, infrastructure, and local governance, reflecting the city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and dynamic environment for businesses and residents alike.
“This prestigious award is a testimony to the local governments pledge for excellence in governance, sustainable development, and strengthened partnership between the public and private sector,” said Abenir.
Through Mayor Jerry Treñas’ governance, Abenir said Iloilo City has continued to make remarkable strides, attracting both foreign and local investments.
She pointed out that the city’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business has been pivotal in fostering a conducive environment for entrepreneurship and growth.
By implementing essential infrastructure projects to support advancements in technology and alternative energy, Abenir pointed out the city is positioning itself as a hub for innovation and sustainability.
Emphasizing sustainable development further enhances Iloilo City’s appeal, Abenir noted that making it not only a model of progress but also a livable city that is truly deserving of the numerous recognitions and citations it has received.
“Our Association remains a dedicated and active stakeholder in the ongoing development programs of Iloilo City,” said Abenir.
Iloilo City has become a shining example for other cities to emulate, showcasing how strategic planning and forward-thinking governance can lead to thriving communities, she said.

In addition to being recognized as the Overall Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City, Iloilo City also secured first-place rankings in five critical pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation.
Economic Dynamism reflects the city’s thriving business environment and economic activity, while Government Efficiency highlights the streamlined services and responsive governance.
The Infrastructure ranking underscores the city’s well-developed facilities, supporting growth and development.
Resiliency showcases Iloilo City’s ability to withstand and recover from challenges, proving its adaptability and strength.
Innovation emphasizes the city’s commitment to embracing forward-thinking solutions for sustainable progress.
These achievements were celebrated during the Western Visayas Creativity Forum cum Competitive LGU Awards on November 4 at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
This event recognized the exceptional contributions of local government units, with Iloilo City standing out for its proactive governance and focus on excellence.
