MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio is not expecting the House of Representatives, under Speaker Martin Romualdez, to tackle an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. seriously.

According to the Vice President, she is not expecting that the complaint to be filed by Duterte Youth chairman Ronald Cardema to receive the needed numbers to reach the Senate court.

“Impeachment is a political exercise, it’s a game of numbers so I don’t expect anything to happen to that impeachment complaint,” Duterte-Carpio told the media in Digos City, Davao del Sur on Saturday night

“We don’t expect that the House of Representatives will take it seriously because most of the members of the House of Representatives are allies of the President,” she added.

Cardema said on Thursday last week that he is filing an impeachment complaint against Marcos after the elections in relation to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest.

Duterte-Carpio said she is unaware of the plan of Cardema and has not yet read the articles of impeachment set to be filed against the Chief Executive.

“Hindi ako maka-comment kasi hindi ko alam na may nangyaring ganoon,” she said. “After the fact na lang ng filing.”

The grounds for impeachment being cited was Marcos’ alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and his alleged betrayal of public trust, “when he allowed the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte on the basis of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.”

The complainants claimed that Duterte’s right to due process was violated, when the Marcos Jr. administration authorized his arrest on March 11./PN
