ILOILO City – Security preparations for next year’s ASEAN Summit here got a boost as the city government turned over six brand-new Toyota Hilux patrol cars worth P9.75 million to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), with more units set to arrive within the year.
Mayor Raisa Treñas, who led the turnover during the flag-raising ceremony at Plaza Libertad on Sept. 29, said the new vehicles form part of the city’s commitment to ensure both daily peace and order and readiness for the international event.
“These vehicles are part of our continued commitment to equip our police force with the tools they need to keep our communities safe,” Treñas said.
The city government procured a total of 12 patrol cars.
“Six were turned over today, and another six will follow. With the support of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla’s ‘Buy 1, Give 1’ program, this will be doubled to 24 brand-new units. This support comes at the right time, as Iloilo City prepares to host the ASEAN Summit next year, a major international event that requires the highest level of security and preparedness,” said Treñas.
The new patrol cars were immediately deployed across ICPO stations: two units went to Police Station 10, while Police Stations 1, 3, 6, and 7 each received one.
ICPO City Director Police Colonel Kim Legada expressed gratitude, stressing that the vehicles symbolize the public’s trust.
“These new patrol vehicles are more than just assets, they represent the trust of the people of Iloilo City through the support of our local government. Rest assured, ICPO will use them to ensure peace, safety, and security for all,” he said.
Legada added that the additional fleet will improve emergency response, boost mobility during law enforcement operations, and increase police visibility in critical areas.
“With the ASEAN Summit coming next year, we are focused on ensuring that Iloilo City will be a safe, orderly, and welcoming host for both delegates and visitors. These patrol vehicles are a big boost to our capability,” he said.
The turnover was witnessed by ICPO’s command group, station commanders, and unit chiefs, alongside city government officials, underscoring their joint commitment to maintain law and order./PN
