ILOILO City – As Mayor Jerry Treñas wraps up the final year of his administration, the Commission on Audit (COA) has awarded the Iloilo City Government its highest possible rating — an unmodified opinion — on its 2024 financial statements.

“This is the highest audit rating granted by COA, which affirms that the city’s financial statements present a fair and transparent account of our fiscal management,” Treñas said.

An unmodified opinion signifies that state auditors found the city’s financial statements to be fairly presented and in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards, with no material misstatements or significant deficiencies.

The COA rating is seen as a major milestone for Treñas, who noted its timing as he prepares to end his final term on June 30.

“As I approach the completion of my term… this distinction is one of the lasting legacies that I will carry as I step down from office,” he said.

Treñas credited the achievement to the City Accountant’s Office led by Michelle Lopez.

“Their hard work and professionalism have greatly contributed to earning this well-deserved unmodified opinion from COA,” he said.

While the city has received favorable audit ratings in previous years, Treñas emphasized that the latest affirmation underscores the administration’s sustained efforts to uphold accountability in managing public funds./PN
