ILOILO City – City hall will get rid of fixers, said City Administrator Hernando Galvez.
There were many at the Local Civil Registrar (LCR), he said, citing the complaints lodged at the city government’s customer care center that his office operates.
Galvez said he already warned the CLR about the fixers and alerted the Iloilo City Police Office.
City Civil Registrar chief Romeo Juncae Manikan Jr. was planning entrapment operations, he revealed.
For a fee, fixers offer LCR clients to speedily process documents such as certificate of live birth, marriage certificate and death certificate.
Galvez said he will find out if these fixers have connections with city hall employees.
“Willing si Mr. Manikan nga ipadakop kon may ara s’ya tinawo nga violators sang anti-red tape law,” said Galvez.
Republic Act 9485 (Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007) aims “to improve efficiency in the delivery of government services to the public by reducing bureaucratic red tape and preventing graft and corruption.”
“We appeal to the fixers to stop or we will put them behind bars,” Galvez said.
Galvez also appealed to the public to be more patient at the moment as the city government designs ways to improve its services. The Human Resources and Development Office has been conducting seminars among city hall service frontliners, he revealed.
Some frontliners do not know how to entertain clients, said Galvez.
“They are being reminded of protocols and the proper manner of dealing with clients,” he said./PN
