Iloilo City officials vow support to Marcos Jr.

ILOILO CITY – City government officials vowed to support President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“I am giving him my full support. His success will also be the success of our country,” Mayor Jerry Treñas told Panay News.

Cong. Julienne Baronda said she looks forward to a progressive Philippines under Marcos.

“May the promise of unity bring forth growth and development to our beloved country,” said Baronda. “We are with you, Mr. President.”

Marcos Jr. took his oath of office yesterday as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines.

The ceremony was held in front of the National Museum in Manila.

Marcos won the presidential race by garnering 31,629,783 votes or 58.77 percent of the votes cast in the May 9 elections.  But in Iloilo City, he lost. He got 85,117 votes.

It was Vice President Leni Robredo who won in Iloilo City. She got 149,256 votes.

Treñas campaigned hard for Robredo. But right after it became clear that Marcos won, he issued this statement: “Congratulations to the presumptive President Bongbong Marcos, Jr. May you always be surrounded by divine guidance as you lead the entire Filipino community.”

He urged Ilonggos to accept the election results “difficult as it may be.”

“As good citizens of the country, we have to show him our support and ensure that he succeeds in leading the Philippines,” said Treñas./PN
