ILOILO City – The city’s public markets and slaughterhouse operations remain vital pillars of the local economy, generating a combined revenue of ₱6.6 million in April 2025, according to the Iloilo City Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO).
Leading the pack was the Iloilo City Slaughterhouse with ₱2,297,757.45 in collections, followed by the bustling Iloilo Terminal Market or “Super” with ₱1,891,609.49.
The monthly report reflects not only strong local commerce but also the city government’s intensified efforts to improve market operations and infrastructure.
The rest of the revenue came from the following public markets:
* Iloilo Central Market – ₱709,508.53
* La Paz Public Market – ₱670,581.38
* Jaro Big Market – ₱483,346.03
* Mandurriao Public Market – ₱259,641.06
* Arevalo Public Market – ₱220,612.16
* Jaro Small Market – ₱126,679.23
“These numbers represent more than financial gains — they are a testament to the resilience and discipline of our vendors and the support of our buying public,” the LEEO said in a statement. “Every peso collected contributes to better services and upgraded facilities.”
The city has poured significant investment into modernizing its economic enterprises, with ongoing rehabilitation of major markets like the Iloilo Central and Terminal markets backed by public-private partnerships.
These initiatives aim to boost hygiene, convenience, and efficiency while supporting thousands of daily vendors and consumers.
LEEO vowed to continue promoting responsible business practices and maintaining transparency in revenue generation and use — all in support of Iloilo’s goal to become a model for sustainable urban commerce in Western Visayas./PN
