ILOILO City – Iloilo Executives-DPWH cruised to a 4-0 start in the Open Category of the Mayor Jerry Treñas New Normal Sporting Event Basketball Tournament Open Category on Wednesday night.
Led by Miguel Sasuman, the defending champions DPWH scored a 79-67 triumph over Elite Lab (1-1) at the M.H. Del Pilar Covered Court at the Don Francisco Village in Jaro.
Sasuman, a former Central Philippine University standout, was hailed as Player of the Game with a near double-double 20 points and nine assists for DPWH.
It was Iloilo Executive-DPWH’s fourth game in the last five days as they also played on Tuesday night, where they defeated Biron Golez, 88-66, behind the 22 points of reigning MVP John Lester Samones.
MDC Inc., on the other hand, bounced back from their Sunday loss with a 89-74 triumph over the slumping Leadgen. MDC improved to 2-1, while Leadgen dropped to 0-3.
Agapito Clarino stood tall anew for MDC Inc. as he finished with 32 points before completing his double-double with 10 rebounds while also dishing four assists.
Uniwheels, meanwhile, climbed to second place in standings with 2-0 win-loss record on Tuesday evening after a 98-73 annihilation of Leadgen.
Felino Arenal played an efficient game for the Uniwheels since the start to top his squad on offense with 15 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
TEJ Builders, for its part, remained unscathed after two games following a 75-61 domination over MDC Inc. on Monday evening. Franc Steven Tono led the way with 19 markers for the winning team.
Action resumes tonight with Guimaras Leopards (0-1) and Biron Golez (0-3) searching for their first win at 5 pm, and Elite Lab and AsiaLink aiming for a 2-1 slate at 7:30 pm./PN
