Iloilo, Negros still undefeated in PCAP

MANILA – The Iloilo Kisela Knights and Negros Kingsmen maintained their spotless records in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines’ (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Cup following their victories on Wednesday night.

The Kisela Knights began the evening with an 18.5-2.5 thrashing of Camarines Soaring Eagle before having the same score against the Cebu City Machers to move to 5-0 in the standings.

Iloilo dominated Camarines in the Blitz game behind victories by Karl Ochoa, Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Fritz Porras, John Silvederio, and Mark Mariano, as well as a draw by Joel Antonio.

Additionally, the squad toppled the Soaring Eagle in the Rapid event.

Iloilo showed no signs of slowing down versus Cebu, with Antonio, Ochoa, Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Silvederio, and Mark Mariano all putting in solid Blitz game performance. Porras settled for a draw.

The Kisela Knights also defeated the Machers in the Rapid category.

On the other hand, the Kingsmen were victorious in the lone game against Palawan Queen’s Gambit, 19.5-1.5, to register their fourth victory.

The Kingsmen demonstrated their strength in the Blitz event, with wins by Nelson Mariano III, Mari Joseph Turqueza, Jenny Mayor, Adrian dela Cruz, and Rolzon Roullo, as well as a draw by Rowelyn Acedo.

In the Rapid game, the Negrenses crushed the Palaweños with Mariano, Turqueza, Acedo, Mayor, dela Cruz, Theseus Benitez Jr., and Roullo, scoring two points each./PN
