ILOILO – The Iloilo provincial government’s brand of inclusive and community-driven governance has drawn attention from other regions, with officials from Cabalanga, Camarines Sur traveling here to study the province’s flagship programs on gender equality, tourism, and economic empowerment.

The visiting delegation spent a full-day learning exchange at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, benchmarking Iloilo’s strategies that have become models for uplifting underserved communities and promoting sustainable development.

At the center of discussions were Iloilo’s Gender and Development (GAD) programs, which seek to empower women and marginalized sectors by expanding access to education, health services, and livelihood opportunities.

Officials also examined Iloilo’s community-based tourism initiatives that generate jobs while preserving local culture, and its economic development agenda supporting small and medium enterprises, skills training, and infrastructure investment.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias underscored that these initiatives stem from the social justice agenda of Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.

“Our governance model is rooted in the principles of fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that no one is left behind,” Banias stressed.

He added that Iloilo’s push includes programs on access to healthcare, educational reforms, and social support such as financial assistance to disadvantaged families.

For Camarines Sur officials, the exposure highlighted how Iloilo’s integrated approach to development translates policies into measurable impacts at the grassroots.

The exchange not only opened doors for future collaboration but also underscored the growing role of LGU-to-LGU partnerships in addressing shared challenges across provinces.

Iloilo’s governance model, officials noted, stands out for its ability to merge inclusivity, social equity, and economic growth — making it a template for local governments nationwide seeking sustainable, people-centered development./PN
