ILOILO – Economically marginalized Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Iloilo Province now have a chance to pursue higher education without the crushing burden of expenses, as the provincial government opened applications for its P41,000-per-year Educational Assistance Program for Academic Year 2025–2026.
The Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (OPSWDO) announced that the application period runs from Aug. 11 to 22, 2025, targeting deserving PWDs and members of Indigenous Cultural Communities who are enrolled in state colleges and universities within the province.
“Indigenous individuals, particularly children, have the right to all levels and forms of education of the State without discrimination,” the OPSWDO stated.
For IP applicants, the program is open to bona fide Iloilo residents belonging to Panay Bukidnon or Ati families, enrolled in any course in a state college or university within the province, with an annual gross family income of not more than P150,000, and not enjoying any other scholarship.
Benefits include a monthly allowance of P3,500 for housing, transportation, food, and board and lodging, a book allowance of P2,000 per semester, a communication allowance of P2,000, a research allowance of P2,500, and a cash incentive for graduates — totalling P41,000 annually.
Fifty new IP grantees are accepted each year.
Applicants must submit an accomplished application form with a 2”x2” photo, a Certificate of Confirmation from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, certificates of residency and indigency, a copy of the latest registration form, grades from the previous school year, and a certification from the school that the applicant has no other scholarship.
For PWD applicants, eligibility requires being a bona fide resident of Iloilo Province, a registered PWD with the local Municipal SWDO, enrolled in any course in a public college within the province, having a general weighted average of at least 80% in senior high school or the latest semester, and a family income not exceeding P150,000.
The benefits mirror those for IP scholars, with the same P41,000 total annual assistance.
Required documents include a completed application form with a recent photo, a photocopy of the PWD ID card, certifications from the MSWDO confirming PWD registration, a social case study, a certificate of residency, a photocopy of the current registration form, and certification from the school that the applicant is not receiving other scholarships or subsidies.
The OPSWDO encouraged interested students to prepare all necessary documentation to ensure a smooth application process, underscoring its commitment to promoting inclusivity in education and ensuring these scholars have the tools to succeed academically and professionally./PN
