Ilongga bags gold in Palaro 200-m dash

LAOAG, Ilocos Norte – Ilongga Trixia Arellano had an impressive debut in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa by taking the gold medal in the elementary girls 200-meter dash at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium here.

Arellano, a standout of Concepcion Central Elementary School in Iloilo, stressed that her gold medal finish in the event was a perfect birthday gift as she turned 11 years old on Tuesday.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Panginoon kasi natupad po ‘yung wish ko sa birthday ko,” Arellano told the media after her victory. “Hindi ako makakarating dito kung hindi dahil sa suporta ng magulang ko.”

Capiznon Angel Villagracia captured a gold medal in the secondary girls 100-meter hurdles, while Ilonggo Efren Gempeson won a silver medal in the elementary boys 400-meter

Ilonggos Joshua dela Pena, Welmer Jeck Labrador, and Kian Labar ended up with bronze medals each in the secondary boys javelin throw, 5000-meter run, and 400-meter run, respectively.

In pencak silat, Aklanon Zyche Mae Jizmundo bagged two gold medals for Western Visayas in the secondary girls Tunggal and regu (with Stephanie Cipriano and Hamillyne Gaye Prado).

John Jemz Jizmundo and Kent Terrence Berlandino also won a gold medal in the secondary boys regu, while Mickael Xavier Malic settled for a silver medal finish in the secondary boys Tunggal.

In taekwondo, Capiznons Merishka Ablao, Lindsy Degayo, and Alexandria Ignacio won a gold medal in the secondary girls team poomsae, while Negrense Samantha Gail Arcigal settled for bronze in the elementary girls poomsae individual category.

In arnis, Negrense Renalyn Cornel contributed two silver medals in the secondary girls individual likha anyo espada y daga before teaming up with Janeth Gasapo and Johnmae Micoyco for the team (synchronized) likha anyo double weapon silver.

Ilonggo Melchor Bataican III won a silver with Trisha Mae Jales in elementary mixed elementary anyo double weapon before taking the bronze in elementary boys individual likha anyo single weapon.

In chess, Ilongga Thea Grace Clar captured a bronze medal in the secondary girls individual blitz event.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas secondary girls volleyball team, represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School, finished the group stage with a perfect 3-0 record.

The two-time defending champions scored a 25-11, 25-15 sweep over Bicol Region on late Tuesday before defeating Region XII (SOCCSKSARGEN) on Wednesday, 25-16, 25-16.
