
MANILA – Roma Mae Doromal expressed excitement to play for Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers, the team that selected her during the 2024 PVL Rookie Draft on Monday night at the Novotel in Quezon City.
According to the Iloilo City-native libero, she is very much looking forward to learn and hone her playing skills further under the guidance of Solar Spikers head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Excited ako to be under coach Roger. I heard a lot of good feedbacks about him and super open talaga ako na matuto sa kanya and to be under sa system niya, and to play under coach Roger,” Doromal said.
“Ie-embrace ko (‘yung role ko dito sa Solar Spikers) kung papaano ko in-embrace ‘yung role ko sa Ateneo. This time, I hope, makapag-lead ako, kami ni Leila (Cruz), sa Capital1 and super excited din to play with her inside the court,” she added.
Doromal admitted that there were tense moments after her named was not called in the first round of the rookie draft proceedings, but got a relief when the Solar Spikers picked her in the second round.
“Siyempre sobrang nakakakaba talaga siya and I am very happy na nakuha ako. Thankful din ako sa Capital1 for having me and welcoming me, ‘yun talaga ‘yung gusting- gusto nila ako,” Doromal said.
Negrense Maicah Larroza, who was selected at No. 4 by Farm Fresh Foxies, said is very much excited to playing for head coach Shota Sato and sharing what she has learned from the De La Salle University Lady Spikers with her new teammates.
“I am overwhelmed; I did not expect that I would be picked by Farm Fresh, but, of course, I am very excited, and I look forward to working with my future coaches and teammates,” Larroza said.
“I am looking forward to being under their Japanese head coach. Farm Fresh is a young and emerging team, and I am excited na i-share ‘yung skills ko sa kanila and excited din ako na mag-learn ng mga bago dun,” she added.
Meanwhile, the other Western Visayas-based volleybelle who participated in the rookie draft, Larroza’s former Lady Spikers’ teammate Caroline Santos, was not selected during the proceedings./PN
