ILOILO City – Ilongga jumper Elvy Villagoniza delivered three gold medals for the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses’ athletics team in the 24th University Games yesterday at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

Villagoniza, a former standout of Iloilo National High School, captured her first gold medal in the women’s long jump. She submitted her best leap of 5.65 meters.

But the Iloilo City native jumper told Panay News it was not her best performance yet. She vowed to train harder in time for the UAAP Season 82 competition.

“I am delighted to finally win a gold medal as a UST athlete but it was not my best leap,” Villagoniza said. “It was still too low. I will try to improve further in the UAAP competition.”

Aside from long jump, Villagoniza also dominated the triple jump event as well as the 4×200 meter relay with fellow Ilongga Pamela Marquillero, Berna Luz Talaron, and Jessa Jarder.

Ilonggo Rogil Pablo of the College of St. Benilde Blazers also captured a gold medal in the men’s long jump event.

Pablo submitted a 6. 96-meter leap to defeat Rizal Technological University tracksters Rolly Olivares and Angelico Ramos./PN
