
MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ Amie Provido was named Best Middle Blocker in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament awarding ceremony on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Iloilo City-native Provido secured her first-ever UAAP individual citation after finishing with 179 Ranking Points (RP) from her 30 total blocks this season and 0.55 per set average.
Aside from Provido, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons’ Niña Ytang was also cited the Best Middle Blocker award for the third straight season with 166 RP, from 30 blocks and 0.54 average per set.
Negrense Angel Anne Canino, meanwhile, captured the UAAP Best Outside Spiker award alongside National University Lady Bulldogs’ Mhicaela Belen, the Season 87 Most Valuable Player.
Canino, the UAAP Season 85 Rookie of the Year-MVP, finished second in the said award with 250 RP, behind three-time UAAP MVP Belen, who dominated the position with 381 RP.
Canino ranked second in scoring with 264 points while placing fourth in spiking (35.78 percent success rate), ninth in blocking (0.45 per set), and seventh in reception (41.64 efficiency).
Guimarasnon Camille Lamina of the Lady Bulldogs edged out Negrense Cassie Carballo of University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses for the season’s Best Setter citation.
Lamina prevailed over Carballo in RP, 185-177, by leading the setting category with a 5.34 average per set compared to the latter’s 4.89 per frame. Other metrics like blocking, serving, and digging were close, but the setting numbers sealed the win.
Adamson University Lady Falcons’ Shaina Nitura, meanwhile, bagged the Rookie of the Year award with 74.259 Statistical Points after shattering several records, including the highest scoring season across all divisions with 371 points.
Completing the individual awardees are Lady Spikers’ Shevana Laput and Lyka de Leon as Best Opposite Spiker and Best Libero, respectively./PN
