MANILA – Ilongga volleybelles and a team from Negros Occidental will compete in the 2021 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge slated on Feb. 26 to 28 in Subic, Zambales.

Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors will have two teams in the three-day tournament. Their players are Ilonggas Dhannylaine Mae Demontaño, Glaudine Troncoso, and Jackie Estoquia.

Joining former Central Philippine University Golden Lions’ stars Demontano and Troncoso and former University of San Agustin volleybelle at the Lady Realtors were Shiela Pineda, Marge Tejada, and Jinggay Bangad.

Abanse Negrense team of Negros Occidental Gov. Bong Lacson, meanwhile, will send two squads but the composition of the team is yet to be released.

United Auctioneers Inc., which represents Chery Tiggo, is also sending two teams, while Toby’s Sports are fielding one squad to complete the field.

F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, which was also mentioned to be participating in the tournament, is reportedly doubtful to compete because the squad has not practiced at all.

According to PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMMA) and Region III task force have approved the health and safety protocols of their bubble tournament.

“We already received the approval of venue host SBMA, which is very important, and the Region III task force,” Juico said at the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday.

The PSL, however, has to get the guidelines for amateur sports from the Department of Health and the green light from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to proceed with its tournament.

It was a tough process for the PSL to resume its competition because the league was classified as an amateur tournament./PN
