BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) has an interim general manager. But he knows not where to start fixing which problem first of the water district.

“As of now, I have no idea on the solutions as I have no idea what is the root cause of the problems,” said Engr. Mario Macatangay from the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).

Macatangay officially started functioning as Baciwa interim general manager yesterday.

He was welcomed by Baciwa directors Marichi Ramos, Lawrence Villanueva, Lorendo Dilag, Cecilia Henares, Maida Torre and Engr. Alfredo Bayanin.

“I want to be part of the solution. I have nothing but good intentions here,” Macatangay he said.

LWUA administrator Andres Ibarra instructed him to make sure that Bacolod City’s water supply and distribution are not compromised, said Macatangay.

“I have to assess on the situation on the ground and ensure that the operation of the water district continues,” he said.

Macatangay said LWUA appointed him in Baciwa for one year only, unless sooner revoked.

He is LWUA’s acting manager for water district development division, Area III, Southern Tagalog.

Macatangay had also served as interim general manager of the water district in Infanta, Quezon for three years.

Suspended Baciwa general manager Juliana Carbon welcomed the appointment of an interim general manager as this may somehow ease the tension between the directors and the Baciwa management.

But she said on Tuesday she will continue to report because she remains a Baciwa employee.

“I am still receiving salary from Baciwa so I must report to the office,” she said.

Carbon said she may occupy a space in the administrative building, stay in her office or outside the general manager’s office.

Yesterday, Macatangay did not say where he will be holding office./PN
