BACOLOD City – A total of 166 Indigenous Peoples (IP) students from three local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental received educational assistance amounting to P1.1 million.
The beneficiaries, composed of elementary and high school students, are residents of the towns of Isabela and Binalbagan, and Himamaylan City. Each student received P6,750 to cover their school allowance for a period of nine months.
The distribution was held in the respective LGUs and carried out under the Educational Assistance for IPs’ Basic Education (EAIBE) program, a special scholarship category administered by the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division (NOSPD).
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson encouraged the young scholars to stay committed to their education, saying he believes in their potential to rise above challenges and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
“With the right support and opportunities, you can achieve your dreams and help uplift your families and fellow IPs,” Lacson told the beneficiaries.
He also reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to supporting IP, particularly in ensuring access to quality education and equal opportunities for development./PN
