ILOILO – A total of 949 confiscated open pipes/modified mufflers were destroyed by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) yesterday.

This was part of the three-day challenge under the Anti-Open Muffler Operation of the IPPO from April 11 to 13, in which municipal police stations (MPS) were categorized into three.

The towns of Pototan, Ajuy and Bingawan took the lead in three categories.

For the population of 60,000 and above, or category A, the Pototan MPS led, conducting a total of 17 operations and confiscating 100 modified mufflers.

For the population of 35,000 to 60,000, or category B, the Ajuy MPS led with six operations resulting in the recovery of 98 modified mufflers.

For the 35,000 and below population, or category C, Bingawan conducted two operations and seized 49 modified mufflers.

The top-performing police stations were given a plaque and certificate of appreciation as well as a monetary reward from IPPO director, Police Colonel Ronaldo Palomo.

Police Major Rolando Araño, IPPO spokesperson, said the three-day challenge is to remind the public to reduce noise pollution.

“Ang reason ngaa nag-conduct kita sini is to remind aton nga mga pumuluyo about safety kag to reduce noise pollution. Kay amo gid ini ang ginareklamo sang aton nga mga elderly, kag kung gakatulog gani ang mga katigulangan nagakakibot sila kag disturbo gid sa ila,” said Araño.

He added the challenge is only the start and will be a continuous campaign of the IPPO./PN
