ILOILO City – A fire that broke out in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district on Sunday, September 22, destroyed five houses, with damage pegged at approximately P660,000.
The affected houses were owned by Catherine Rapista, Macario Sapare, Florita Quinoviva, Merlyn Susvilla, and Jenny Susvilla.
According to the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire originated from Quinoviva’s home at around 7:09 a.m. and reportedly sparked by a family member with a mental disability playing with flames.
The fire quickly spread to neighboring houses. A “fire out” was declared at 8:54 a.m.
Rapista, who was awakened by shouts of a fire, recounted the chaos: “We realized the fire had already engulfed our home before we could react.”/PN
