ILOILO City – Jealousy prompted a man to fatally stab another in Barangay Tahing, Calinog, Iloilo.
Jonar Lastrilla, 22, of Barangay Maspasan, Calinog was detained at the municipal police station. He faces a murder charge.
Lastrilla admitted to attacking his fellow villager Jomar Caspillo, police said.
Caspillo died of a stab wound on the stomach at the Calinog District Hospital.
“Jealousy was the motive,” said Senior Inspector Remias Pamplona, Calinog police chief.
Lastrilla turned himself in to the police and remorsefully admitted to the crime, said Pamplona.
According to the suspect, he regretted what he did and was just very angry with Caspillo, who he suspected was courting his girlfriend and inviting her to a date, police said.
The stabbing happened at around 9:45 p.m. on March 9.
Caspillo was binge drinking with friends outside the house of Lastrilla’s girlfriend when the suspect stabbed him, police said, citing investigation.
Lastrilla surrendered several hours later but the knife used in the crime was not with him, said the police./PN
