JERICHO Rosales shared the preparations he did for his role in the upcoming movie “Quezon”, a historical biopic on President Manuel Quezon.

The actor relayed that he did deep research about the former president prior to the filming. He also read the script multiple times in order to immerse himself in his story.

“They gave me ‘yung authobiography niya, of course ang kapal nung materials na pwede mong babasahin. I read history books. ‘Yung pinaka-important for me to do is to read the script, think I read it five times… until ma-feel ko na siya,” he said in an interview with Julius Babao in his latest YouTube vlog.

Jericho shared that he also researched the manner that Manuel Quezon spoke.

“Research on kung papaano siya magsalita. Cool siya ‘di ba? Cool siya eh, tapos okay manamit and everything. But his voice was different, iba siyang magsalita… I had to train my voice, kailangan ganun ‘yung pitch, ganun ‘yung quality ng voice somehow,” he shared.

Jericho also studied the way the former president carried himself.

The actor, alongside the whole team of Quezon, then work on his looks for the role.

“We discussed, how are we going to approach this? Do we copy the exact thing. So pumunta sila sa bahay, binuhusan ng semento ‘yung ulo ko, it’s on my Instagram para makuha ‘yung bust. And then meron na rin akong bust, then nilagay dun ‘yung prosthetics para i-match dun sa mukha ko. It was a long process,” he recalled.

The actor went on: “The first day, we spent seven or eight hours sa chair. We had more than five look test to get to a decision kung ano ang gagamitin natin. Anong age ba siya nito? Nasaan ba siya nito? So Jerrold (Tarog, director) and the team, the producers were working closely para to get to a point na okay ano ‘yung pinaka the best na look. We all decided we just need to get the essence of the man.”

The Quezon team also advised him not to work out prior to the shoot.

“He was 56 nung time na ‘yun... They said try to not work out, well at least not look fit. The ex-president he died of tuberculosis so parang I had to look pustora pero alam mong hindi nagwo-work out, ‘yung parang pinipilit niya na postura siya talaga,” he shared.

Jericho also spoke to historians to further understand Quezon.

Until the actual filming, Jericho shared that there were constant discussions on set for him to give life to the role.

“Until we were shooting, we would discuss, I would discuss with my co-actors what they knew about the government, the situation. I had to understand what was happening in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s before the Japanese came…,” he stated.

“Quezon” is set to be released exclusively in cinemas on October 15. (Push Team)
