‘Kagawad’, ex-soldier collared over loose guns, ammos in Ajuy

ILOILO – Police officers seized multiple firearms and ammunition in two separate raids that also led to the arrest of a barangay kagawad and a former soldier in Barangay Tipacla, Ajuy town.

On Sunday, March 30, Ajuy police carried out the operation against alias “Frank”, 42, an incumbent barangay kagawad, through the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Police Lieutenant John Michael Dalipe, chief of the Ajuy Municipal Police Station (MPS), said the suspect was caught with a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, a homemade .9mm firearm, four live cartridges of caliber .9mm, and a gray sling bag.

The said operation was also in coordination with the Iloilo Police Provincial Office and Iloilo Maritime Police Station.

Prior to this, on March 29, alias “Diego”, a former Philippine Army soldier, was also arrested. Recovered from his possession were four live bullets of a caliber .45.

The suspects were detained at the Ajuy MPS. They will be charged for violation of RA 10591 and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
