KALIBO, Aklan – The Kalibo Santo NiƱo Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi) is making sure that the Ati-Atihan Festival next year will be safe.

Kasafi is the event organizer of the Ati-Atihan Festival, which is considered the ā€œMother of all Philippine Festivals,ā€ set on Jan. 15 to 21, 2018.

Albert Menez, Kasafi chairman, said the security of the festival is their primary concern, especially considering that there may be rebel attacks or any untoward incident during the revelry.

Menez said he is coordinating with the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) and the Kalibo Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office.

ā€œI have been told by the intelligence officials that the recent Marawi terrorism and the threat from the New People’s Army may spill over during the Ati-Atihan Festival. Although there was no intelligence report indicating that the Ati-Atihan is a target, we need to be sure,ā€ said Menez.

The APPO already requested additional security forces from the Police Regional Office 6 to guard the merrymaking in this capital town.

Menez assured revelers that the tight security will not hamper the fun activities of the festival.

ā€œWe do promise more colorful and exciting activities for the Ati-Atihan revelry next year,” said Menez. (PNA/PN)
