BACOLOD City – Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) urged Negrenses to support President Rodrigo Duterte who faces an impeachment complaint filed by Negrense congressman Gary Alejano of the Magdalo party-list.

“My appeal to our brothers here in Bacolod City and neighboring cities is continued support to the programs and aspirations of the President. Everything that we do is for change, for the betterment of our country and our citizenry,” said Andanar at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-PCOO Roadshow on March 24.

He welcomed the support aired by the leaders of the Negros sugar industry to Duterte.

“I give it to the sugar industry for their unwavering support to this administration. It looks like the people of the sugar industry understand what the President is doing and they know the sincerity of the President to make our country a prosperous one,” said Andanar.

The statement of support was published in local newspapers on Friday. It was signed by the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters, Inc. president Enrique Rojas, Panay Federation of Sugarcane Farmers, Inc. president Danilo Abelita, Confederation of Sugar Producers Association, Inc. president Francis de la Rama, and United Sugar Producers’ Federation of the Philippines, Inc. president Manuel Lamata together with the leaders of the associations under the four federations.

The sugar industry leaders said they “believe in the sincerity of Duterte and in his programs for the alleviation of poverty, the war against drugs and corruption, and the economic upliftment of the country.”

They condemned “in the strongest terms the action of Representative Alejano.”

“Despite the accomplishments of Duterte in poverty alleviation, the fight against corruption and the war against drugs, some self-serving people like Alejano still dared to file an impeachment complaint against him,” part of their statement of support read./PN
