BORACAY ISLAND – Against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic beaches, La Carmela de Boracay recently marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration that reflected two decades of dedication, resilience, and heartfelt service.

What began as a vision by Chairman and President Samuel A. So Jr. and his wife Maria Luisa C. So has now grown into one of the island’s most beloved beachfront destinations. Located in the heart of the white sand paradise, La Carmela de Boracay has become synonymous with affordable luxury, warmth, and Filipino hospitality.
The anniversary celebration was not only a testament to La Carmela’s growth but also a moment of reflection on the people and values that brought it to life. The night was filled with music, meaningful tributes, and messages of gratitude that painted a vivid picture of the resort’s journey.

One of the most memorable moments came from Carmela Coo-So, Vice President for Sales and Marketing, whose moving speech captured the spirit of the occasion. With raw emotion and sincerity, she paid tribute to the tireless employees, loyal guests, and the travel agency partners who stood by the resort through highs and lows — including the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“To all our employees here in Boracay, a million gazillion thank yous,” she began. “I know it’s been a hard one since the pandemic, but we can see that you always try your hardest, and the haters don’t see that. Whatever you do in life, I pray that you all succeed in it. We always got your back.”
She also had heartfelt words for the resort’s OJTs (on-the-job trainees), encouraging them to finish their studies with pride and passion. Her message reflected the resort’s deeply-rooted values of mentorship, care, and community.
As she recalled her father’s excitement in planning the anniversary celebration, Carmela reminded everyone of the strong familial foundation upon which the resort was built.
“My parents always taught me to stay grounded, to respect each and everyone, and put all the love to your craft,” she shared. “La Carmela will always be a safe place for all of us, no matter the status in life.”
The evening brought together family, friends, staff, partners, and special guests who have all played a role in the resort’s success. Among the notable attendees were TV host Boy Abunda, Miss Eco International 2025 Alexie Mae Brooks, and performers including Kreonz Band, Johnoy Danao, Princess Velasco, Sitti, and Duncan Ramos — all of whom added sparkle and soul to the celebration.

A special tribute was also given to Carmela for her unforgettable speech, which echoed the values that have guided La Carmela de Boracay since its inception — vision, courage, and compassion. Her words, the organizers said, were “not only a tribute to the past, but a beacon for the future.”

As La Carmela de Boracay looks ahead to the years to come, the message is clear: beyond the sand, sea, and sunsets, it is love, loyalty, and leadership that have made this resort more than just a destination — it is a home.
Here’s to 20 years of memories, and to many more yet to be made at La Carmela de Boracay.
