‘Ladderized’ release of cash benefits to Bacolod centenarians pushed

BACOLOD City – The city council approved in a second reading a proposal for a “ladderized” release of cash benefits to centenarians last week.

Councilor Archie Baribar, author of the proposed ordinance, said to make the incentives meaningful, it should be given in a “ladderized” manner, pointing that those who reach the age of 80 to 89 shall receive an incentive of P10,000.

While those who reach the age of 90 until 99 shall receive another P10,000.

And those who will reach 100 years old shall receive the remaining incentive of P80,000 provided they have received all previous incentives.

The proposed ordinance also cited a P5-million allocation in the annual budget of the city government.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod on Aug. 8, 2014, passed City Ordinance (CO) No. 08-14-670, or an ordinance establishing the centenarian award to qualified citizens of the city, providing benefits and funds which include a cash incentive of P10,000 to residents here who reached the age of 100.

Two years later, on Sept. 28, 2016, the city council passed CO No. 09-16-789, or an ordinance which sought to increase the cash incentive benefits of centenarians from P10,000 to P100,000./PN
