MANILA – Ennajie Laure-Cariño delivered a throwback performance as the NxLed Chameleons scored a 25-13, 25-16, 25-14 sweep over the Farm Fresh Foxies in the PVL on Tour on Sunday night at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City.
The former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses standout finished with a game-high of 19 points to be named Player of the Game as the Chameleons clinched a quarterfinals seat with their 4-1 record.
In a post-game interview, Laure-Cariño allayed injury fears after playing just limited minutes during their defeat against the PLDT High Speed Hitters on Saturday.
“Okay naman ako at pinagpahinga ako ni coach,” said Laure-Cariño, who added that she was just under the weather in the past few days.
Chiara Permentilla finished with 10 markers, Jovelyn Fernandez chipped in eight, Jaycel Delos Reyes added five, and Krich Macaslang wound up with four markers for NxLed.
Playmaker Jaja Maraguinot tallied 11 excellent sets, keeping her hitters in rhythm and the Foxies’ defense in constant scramble. She also ended up with four markers for the Chameleons.
Trisha Tubu stood as the lone bright spot for Farm Fresh, delivering 12 points. But she received minimal support, with Jolina Dela Cruz and Rizza Cruz finishing with five points each. They dropped to a 3-2 mark.
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters continued their surge after a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of Galeries Tower Highrisers.
Kim Kianna Dy tallied 12 points, all from attacks, to earn Player of the Game honors for the High Speed Hitters, who closed the group stage with a flawless 5-0 record.
Mika Reyes and Jovielyn Prado chipped in 10 points each, while Mary Joy Baron and Kiesha Bedonia combined for 13 more points for the High Speed Hitters./PN
