BACOLOD City — New Energy/Shakey’s and Terra Dolce/POs Digital Legends defeated their respective opponents to advance to the semifinals of the 6th Msgr. John Liu & Msgr. John Su Memorial Basketball Cup at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center.
Top-seed New Energy demolished No. 8 Batch 2013-14 JTE, 109-54, while No. 2 Terra Dolce defeated Eleven Degrees 1996-99, 81-69, in the quarterfinals.
New Energy outscored JTE in all quarters.
New Energy and Terra Dolce are awaiting the winner of the teams playing as of press time.
Sean Weehansuh and Joshua Coo led New Energy with 14 points apiece; Joshua Chua and Martin Ku added 13 points each; Daniel Ong and Alec Arguelles dropped 8 points apiece; Zoey Pandan, 6; and EJ Hilado, 5.
Axo Yao propelled JTE with 19 points; Eldric Go added 13; Al Nemenzo made 9; while Jerrick Tajonera and Thirdy Montinola scored 4 apiece.
No. 7 Eleven Degrees — looking to upset Terra Dolce — took the half, 39-35.
But Mark Yee and Alex Abay fired 8 points each to take the lead for Terra Dolce, 66-55, in the third quarter.
Terra Dolce did not use their twice-to-beat advantage as they stepped up their defense and limited the Eleven Degrees offense to 14 points in the payoff quarter.
Peewee Demonteverde paced Terra Dolce with 15 points; Mark Yee and Bol Manaloto added 10 each; Christopher Javelosa and Alexander Abay hit 8 apiece; and Carlito Villanueva and Glin Ortaliz fired 6 apiece.
Eleven Degrees was led by Rhett Demonteverde with 13; Jason Yap fired 10; Tim Garrucho made 9; Rayjohn Asparin and Noel Cua, 8 each; and Timothy Chua, 6./PN
