Liza Soberano shares thoughts on how network shutdown affected Pinoys in typhoon-hit areas

“I HOPE this serves as an eye opener.”

This was what Liza Soberano wrote after she shared a news article, highlighting fears that many Filipinos were deprived of crucial information ahead of Typhoon Ambo making landfall this past week due to ABS-CBN being forced to stop its free broadcast operations.

This Friday, the actress directed her followers toward an Interaksyon article, which quoted an ABS-CBN reporter’s conversation with a police officer who relies on the Kapamilya network’s free shows for news, citing mobile data woes, and similar stories from netizens.

“Yes, there are options, but not everyone has that luxury,” added Soberano, whose post garnered more than 1,000 retweets, 5,000 likes, and tens of comments saying they agree.

Ambo, now downgraded to a tropical depression, first made landfall over Eastern Samar last Thursday, before hitting the northern part of the province, Masbate, and Quezon.

It cut off electricity and communications and forced residents to flee to evacuation centers, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.(ABS-CBN)
