CAPIZ – The Maayon Municipal Police Station (MPS) has reported notable accomplishments from January to June this year, highlighting a decline in crime rates and successful law enforcement operations in the municipality.
In an interview, Police Major Syril Punzalan, chief of Maayon MPS, shared that crime incidents in the first six months of 2025 have significantly decreased compared to the same period in 2024.
According to Punzalan, crime statistics show zero reported robbery-related incidents in the first half of 2025, down from seven cases in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, a total of eight vehicular accidents were recorded, reportedly involving gang-related activities, indicating an increase in this category.
The police also conducted five successful search warrant operations, resulting in the arrest of five individuals. The suspects were apprehended for violating several laws, including Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), RA 9516 (law regulating illegal possession of explosives or incendiary devices), and RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Punzalan also underscored the continued implementation of the station’s barangay visitation program, which covers all 32 barangays in Maayon. The initiative aims to raise awareness and educate residents about preventing criminal activities and maintaining public safety.
In line with the Philippine National Police’s commitment to quick response, Maayon police officers strive to respond to emergencies within five minutes. However, Punzalan acknowledged logistical challenges when attending to calls in upland barangays due to rough terrain and difficult access.
“The success of our operations would not be possible without the active involvement of our community. Their partnership plays a vital role in maintaining peace and order throughout the municipality,” Punzalan added./PN
