Magnitude 4.3 quake rattles Antique town

ANTIQUE – A magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook the capital town of San Jose de Buenavista on September 26, sending residents across the province into brief panic.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the quake struck at 9:13 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. It registered Intensities IV to V in San Jose de Buenavista, with tremors also felt in the nearby municipalities of Hamtic, Sibalom, Tobias Fornier, and Barbaza.

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located 11 kilometers north 82° west of San Jose de Buenavista at coordinates 10.76°N, 121.84°E.

While no damage or casualties were reported as of press time, Gov. Paolo Javier urged residents to stay alert and prepared for possible aftershocks.

The incident comes amid a string of earthquakes recently recorded in different parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao./PN
